Warnings given about deadlines on video clubs

Students who do not meet deadlines may not find the many book, video and record clubs a way to enhance their collections.

The ad that reads '10 selections for $1.00!' requires further reading, or students may have merchandise that they never ordered and do not want show up in their mailbox.

Of course, they have 10 days to return the merchandise, but if they have not read the agreement carefully, they have no idea what to do.

A card is sent periodically that announces current selections.

The card must be returned by a certain date to stop a shipment. If the consumer fails to return the card, the merchandise is shipped. Then the recipient has 10 days to return it without having to pay.

Clubs require the consumer to purchase a certain number of articles over a specific time. Membership can be canceled only after the requirement is met.

Even after cancellation, merchandise might be shipped. The consumer must return the first selection after the cancellation of membership. If the seller sends more selections, they are legally considered a gift.

Students who read their mail and keep deadlines could have a hassle-free experience with such clubs.
