Fans embrace vocal bands

    Vocal bands are now becoming available to larger audiences. These bands give the music industrial complex a challenge.

   Vocal percussion made the new category of “vocal bands” possible—groups that rock without instruments.

   This new type of music started about 10 years ago and just recently moved to the forefront.

   The compilation idea of vocal percussion and vocal “guitars” are among unique sounds heard on Five O’Clock Shadow’s Wonders of the World.

   Many of the songs, such as I’m Right, are very upbeat; they really seem to capture the audience.

   The Nylons, another vocal band, started a lot of singers thinking that vocals could be enough. Many bands appeared in their wake and started doing vocal percussion.

   The Nylons loom as legends—the guys who really showed that all-vocal music could rock. Their newest CD elevates what this talent can do.

   At the World Accapellafest in Los Angeles, Jason Alexander gave The Nylons a lifetime achievement award during a concert with the top vocal bands.
