Texans encourage illegal alien problems
by Melissa Sanchez, reporter
Immigration is a Texas issue that continues to get more complex.
Although it has always been a predicament, it has recently become more of a focus because of events like Sept. 11, the D.C. sniper and the Haitians off the Florida coast.
Many Americans argue our borders need to be tightly secured and immigrants watched. However, nothing has been effective, and we can blame no one but ourselves.
People complain about Mexican illegal aliens overpopulating Texas but hire them to work in their yards. How can people complain about a problem they are supporting?
A common argument is that these aliens are costing us money by living on our tax money, exhausting our welfare system and taking our jobs. Who pays their wages? We do. People do not realize these aliens often work for as little as $5 an hour. They are merely indentured servants. Why hire a legal worker who knows his rights when you can hire a powerless, illegal alien to capitalize on?
These aliens should not receive American privileges, but utilizing them to save money is equally wrong.
Illegal aliens enter the United States looking for a better life. Some work two or three jobs to feed their families.
If illegal immigrants have American-born children, the children can receive welfare, but they themselves cannot.
If someone can start a decent life here without documentation, little starting money and an inability to speak the language, perhaps the government should realize that the welfare system is nonessential and being depleted by some slothful Americans living on it.
Chances are whatever restaurant you go to in the Metroplex has an illegal Mexican preparing that authentic Italian, Mexican or Southern-style dinner. No one complains about that.
These people are considered good enough to make our dinner, clean our houses, mow our lawns or build our houses at slave wages, but not worthy of our respect, gratitude or support. Instead, we blame our failed efforts on them and deport them. After all, more will arrive to replace them. It is as though we secretly support them, but refuse to admit it.
If we are so concerned with keeping illegal aliens out of Texas, why dont we punish businesses for employing them? The answer is simple: without them, there wouldnt be as many businesses.
Instead of spending money failing to keep them out of the country, we should put those funds toward improving their way of life. It is not our job to save other countries, but Texas has always had an issue with Mexican immigrants. If they liked their country, they would stay in it.
They love their culture and prefer their heritage to ours, but they sacrifice for their children. Can you blame them? If we helped them better their corrupt government and economy with money that would be spent on them anyway, illegal aliens might not be such a huge problem.
In Texas, illegal aliens help keep the cost of living cheap, the area built up and the surroundings beautiful. If Texas wanted to keep these aliens out, it would. It wont, however, because Texans like using them too much.
No one complains about the outcome of their efforts, but people constantly whine about what they are taking from us.
What about what we are taking from them?
