South wins awards for theater
TCC South Campus production won big at the Texas area Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival recently at Collin County Community College.
The Sign in Sidney Brusteins Window, directed by Patty McCormick, a 28-year TCC veteran and drama professor, was honored with numerous awards.
Receiving Awards for Excellence were Tom Tuttle, set design; Ned Record, light design; Josh Kelsey, sound design; Hillari Paulk, costume design; Tonia Phillips, stage management; and McCormick, directing.
The complete acting ensemble also received an Excellence rating, as did the entire production crew for its aggregate work and for best load-in, the procedure for getting the set in place and then torn down in a proficient manner.
Three actors were singled out for individual recognition for acting excellence: Tonia Phillips, who played Gloria; Djemal Burris, who portrayed Alton; and Stephanie Roberts, who played Mavis.
The production also was named a recipient of the Respondents Choice, which means it is being considered as a participant in the Southwest Regional Meet for Kennedy Center/ACTF in February.
The group will be notified in early December if it will be invited to perform at the regional meet.
