Students preparing WIN-R art exhibit

The sixth annual Women In New Roles (WIN-R) art show is in its final preparation stages.

This year’s theme is Journey to a New Dawn, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the WIN-R program.

Twenty-eight new participants, out of 36 total participants, will show their work in the eclectic exhibit. Ninety pieces will be displayed.

“There will be papier-maché, paintings, drawings, sculpture, crafts and handmade clothing, poetry and even jazz music,” Patty Zimmerman, art show coordinator, said.

The focus of the show is to give the women of WIN-R another avenue to reveal their talents, build confidence and network, Zimmerman said.

The exhibit is a collaborative effort between WIN-R, the art department and the fine arts department.

Journey To A New Dawn opens Monday, Oct. 14, with a reception from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Carillon Gallery on South Campus.

The WIN-R program started on South Campus as a means to encourage and support women returning to college or just beginning their college careers.

Along with the art exhibit, the program sponsors seminars that help educate women. The group members act as support for each other and serve as mentors, as well.

The director of the program is Triesha Light, associate professor of counseling and psychology.
