Zero tolerance translates zero intellect
by Chris Taylor, editor-in-chief
After the recent suspension of an L.D. Bell honor student, people are starting to figure out that zero tolerance laws actually are zero intelligence laws.
The student was originally suspended for a year for unknowingly carrying a bread knife in the bed of his truck. Punishment was later reduced to three days.
Finally, everyone is discovering that zero tolerance laws are ridiculous. We have zero tolerance for many things, but none are exactly huge problems.
Its also strange that we dont have zero tolerance for political corruption, corporate corruption, police corruption or censorship.
I am starting to have zero tolerance for zero tolerance. It really seems to be an easy way to punish without putting any thought into circumstances that might have led to the situation.
There is also a disturbing pattern where we are trying to eliminate all weapons and aggressive behavior from society. Kids are being expelled from school for using their fingers or chicken nuggets as guns and bringing butter knives to school.
We use violence and aggression to get what we want everyday, and then we blame Hollywood for our violent ways. Currently, our gun paranoia is getting way out of hand.
Ive actually heard people describe guns as evil. Thats impossible. Guns are not evil because they are inanimate objects and, therefore, morally neutral. They can be neither good nor evil.
As our nation becomes filled with more and more sissies, we see more attempts to eliminate guns and pictures of guns from our society.
A middle school in Fort Wayne, Ind., recently disarmed its minuteman statue. Minutemen were usually armed with muskets. The statue in the school had a musket in its hands, but the principal thought guns have no place in schools.
I guess we should teach our children the Revolution was won with a heated game of Scrabble instead of guns.
In September, a handful of boxcutters and four airplanes killed about 3,000 people and shut our country down.
Has anyone ever made a gun that can do that in one afternoon?
