South Campus officer resigns after arrest

A TCCD police officer was arrested last month after authorities from the Texas Internet Bureau found evidence of child pornography in his home.

Ernest D. Brown, 45, was taken into custody at his Cleburne residence. He was released from Johnson County Jail on $5,000 bond.
The Texas Internet Bureau, a division of the Attorney General’s office, began its investigation when it received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Brown was likely in possession of some form of child pornography, Tom Kelley, spokesman for the office, said.

During the search, investigators found at least one image believed to be child pornography and seized several computer hard drives to be searched, Kelley said.

Brown was placed on administrative leave with pay, but has since submitted his resignation, Pamela Smith, TCC spokeswoman, said.

Brown had been employed by the district since April as a police officer on South Campus.

“Our police department is working with the Internet Crime Unit to help with the investigation in any way they can,” Smith said.

“There is no indication that he was involved in anything illegal while working for us,” she said.
