Foundation seeks holiday volunteers
Helping hands are needed during the holidays to aid battered women and children.
The fifth annual Christmas party presented by the Battered Womens Foundation and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram plans to offer Christmas cheer to 600 local people.
Volunteers and sponsors are needed to help with the party.
This event is not open to the general public, Brenda Jackson, the foundations executive director, said.
Volunteers are asked to wear a red shirt, black slacks or blue jeans, she said.
Scott Murray of Channel 5 will serve as emcee. Featured guests include fitness expert Larry North, State Sen. Jane Nelson, Miss Teen Texas and members of the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
Most important are the volunteers, Jackson said.
The Christmas party is 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Birdville Baptist Church Gym, 3141 Carson Street in Fort Worth.
Santa USA will arrive at 1:30 p.m. in four helicopters carrying Mrs. Santa, Rudolf and the Elves. They will take photos and give gifts to moe than 450 children.
The event also includes a petting zoo.
The Battered Womens Foundation, a free service established in 1995, provides follow-up support for up to two years.
Volunteers are also needed the first Saturday of every month to help with the Day to Shine event, Jackson said.
Those wanting to participate in either activity should contact Jackson at 817-485-2118.
