Safety part of seasonal festivities

Happy holidays begin with safe holidays, so students should remember basic safety, a TCC police officer said.

Lt. Toni Owens of the South Campus police department warned students to practice common sense over the holiday.

“Most of us get caught up in the holiday season and forget basic personal safety,” she said.

People should always be aware of surroundings. It is safer to walk in groups rather than alone, especially after dark, Owens said.

“A broken window and presents stolen don’t make for a happy season” she said.

If one shops on the way to school, Owens advises not leaving packages in plain view. Even a locked vehicle is too great a temptation, Owens said.

During the holiday season, traffic also becomes more of a concern, Owens said.
