Several students on South Campus will be invited to participate in upcoming student focus groups. Dan Chacon, dean of student development services on South, said, "Getting students' input regarding different services on campus is the purpose of the focus groups." Chacon said the college needs to listen to what students think so it can improve student services, in addition to being able to validate the areas in which the school is already doing a good job." This is the first time South Campus has used student focus groups, Chacon said. The first group was on admissions and registration. "This is not a research study group. The intent of the focus group is to get a pulse of student perception of services on South Campus," he said. Presently, Chacon is working with members of a student focus group on advising and counseling. Other groups planned are financial aid, student activities, transfer services and availability of classes and labs. Each group will have only one meeting. "The information collected and synthesized from the focus group will be shared with the South Campus department responsible for providing the services," he said. Students interested in participating in a South Campus focus group should contact Chacon. |
