Society offers funds for science major
Minority students can get money back next semester rather than emptying their pocketbooks. Minority students pursuing undergraduate studies in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, environmental science or any other related disciplines are eligible to receive up to $3,000 per academic year. The American Chemical Society created its scholars program for minority students after seeing a downward trend of such students entering science-related disciplines in colleges throughout the country. The goal of the program is to stimulate awareness and value in a career in the science discipline. "The American Chemical Society wants to assist students with the tools necessary for future success," Robert Hughes, manager of the program, said. Some of the other perks of the program come from paid summer internships to gain experience and from solid networking leads. However, students should not delay to apply. The application deadline is Saturday, Feb. 15. One hundred scholarships will be offered. For further information about the ACS Scholars Program, visit the organization's Web site at acs.org or call 800-227-5558, ext. 6250. |
