Community at a glanceToday-Feb. 7 SE Campus concludes 14, its exhibit of faculty and staff artwork. A closing reception and artist lectures is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2-4 p.m. in the Art Corridor II. Artists include Sharon Covington, Kara English, John Frost, Doris Gardner, Chris Goebel, Dana Hamrick, Scott Hooker, Micheal Jeffery, Rafael Molina, John Phillips, Eddy Rawlinson, Beata Szechy, Diane Sikes and William Warren. Today-Feb. 12 Schema-A Drawing Show is on exhibit in the Carillon Gallery on South Campus. Artists include Anne Allen, Brenda Chambers, Tom Delaney and Pamela Mahaffey. The gallery is open during normal campus operating hours. Today-Feb. 15 NW Campus Visual Arts Department presents Passages, an exhibit of recent photographic work by Lee Carmichael in the Lakeview Gallery. See story and photograph at right. Today-Feb.15 The GodMudda-A Mafia Fairy Tale, a comedy-spoof of the Godfather movies, is at Dallas' Pocket Sandwich Theatre. Food service begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Today-Feb. 16 An American classic, Bus Stop, is showing at Theatre Arlington. Bus Stop combines a mix of characters, a mid-life crisis, romances and enduring friendships. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 to $16. For reservations, call 817-275-7661. Today-Feb. 22 The Kiss at City Hall is a modern romantic comedy playing at Circle Theatre in Sundance Square. Today-Feb. 23 Brother Mac, a restyled version of Shakespeare's Macbeth, is showing at Jubilee Theatre. The scene is the radical 1960s in the United States with the classic characters recast as figures in the Black Power movement. Performances are 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at 817-338-4411. Saturday matinees offer two-for-one tickets. Feb. 5 Sammons Center for the Arts will present The Young Lions, a concert featuring two groups. The first set by Brannen Temple & Blaze, a young Austin-based group, features jazz standards as well as original works. The George Anderson Group is back for a second appearance with its jazz style and a touch of funk. Besides jazz, the evening includes free valet parking, complimentary coffee, wine, beer, soft drinks and light appetizers. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be ordered at 214-520-7789. Feb. 6 New York's Apollo Theatre will hold try outs at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth. Auditions begin at 3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The tryouts are for an appearance in the New York Apollo Theatre Competition March 19 at the Bass Performance Hall. Feb. 8 Little House on the Prairie fans will want to visit the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame for a celebration of Laura Ingalls Wilder's 136th birthday 1-4 p.m. Activities include story telling, a fiddle performance, spelling bee, square dance lessons, practice in making butter and corn-husk dolls and old-fashioned games. Feb. 9 The Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth will perform at Bass Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. The choir of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth will join the orchestra to present Polovetsian Dances from Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin. Feb. 9 Ten different groups from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex will perform gospel music in the Stampede Room in the Stockyards Station 1-6 p.m. Feb. 14-March 15 The Contemporary Theatre of Dallas presents The Last Night of Ballyhoo. The comedy tells the story of anti-Semitism and disassociated Jews trying to assimilate into the culture of southern Christianity in 1939 Atlanta. The Frietags are more concerned with who is going to the Ballyhoo, the season's social event, rather than with events taking place in Europe. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday with 2 p.m. shows Sunday, Feb. 23, and Sunday, March 2. Tickets are $18 with discounts available. Call 817-828-0094 for tickets. Feb. 17-21 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History joins Lockheed Martin to celebrate National Engineers Week. Lockheed Martin engineers will be at the museum to answer questions and conduct engineering activities, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Visitors can command a remote-controlled blimp through an obstacle course, compete in ZOOM engineering projects and challenge activities or create a full-color, flying F/A-22 paper airplane to take home. Feb. 23 Concerto Antico will perform at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Lewisville at 7 p.m. Destination Dresden will feature works by composers who worked or traveled in Dresden during the 18th century.
