Mothers decide pregnancy rights
Since the landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade, motivated campaigns have aimed at putting an end to abortion. Humanists and religious "scholars" have left a trail of nauseating garble arguing that abortion is murder since the fetus is a living human being. The intention is to convince people to end abortion by making those people feel sorry for the unborn. But, seriously, if abortion is murder, is a miscarriage involuntary manslaughter? Such logic is ridiculous! Moreover, why are doctors who oversee a stillborn birth not arrested? I'd really hate to see how these activists feel about more practical means of birth control. Would condoms become available only on the black market? And if abortion is outlawed, would it be logical to assume that masturbation is next? Why not take it a step further? A clitoris serves no purpose at all? In fact, it is the only body part on either sex that is solely for the purpose of sexual gratification. Better get rid of them. It is all ridiculous. Who is anyone to tell me what I can or cannot do? Many times abortion is the result of carelessness; sometimes condoms break and Depo-Provera shots wear off. People make mistakes, and it only makes sense to have a safety-net available. It seems that part of the intention of the pro-life movement is to add responsibility to younger people who participate in sexual activity. They argue that sex is for procreation only; our bodies are not amusement parks. We were born with these bodies, why not enjoy them for what they are? If one faction is allowed to determine the liberties of the entire nation, we have undermined the Constitution and defied everything that our founding fathers enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and fought for in the American Revolution. While I will agree that abortion is not a proper form of birth control (particularly partial-birth abortions), I am not empowered to say that a woman cannot abort her pregnancy. I realize abortion is not a matter I will likely face in my lifetime; therefore, I cannot dictate that the practice should be banned. We all have the right to choose. Why would anyone want to take that choice away? Pro-lifers will argue with anyone about how pro-life is not about a choice. Well, one does not have to be pro-life; one chooses to be pro-life, be it based on blind faith, religious upbringing or conformity. If an expectant mother is pro-life, so be it. I hope she loves the child and can take care of her child the way it deserves to be cherished. But, at least that mother had a choice in the matter. |
