Johnny Socombe won first place in the NE Campus free-throw contest for students, faculty and administration Jan. 31. Twenty-six participated in the event with the top five receiving recognition. Brandon Parraway took second-place honors. Billy Boehringer and Nitiu Rajporohit tied for third place, and fourth place went to Jayson Smith. Currently - The NE Campus Christian Student Ministries is holding auditions for a campus-wide battle of the bands for students. Bands will compete against each other for the prize of cash money. Amount of the award will be determined later. Free donuts and coffee will be available to all participants. Bands must be family friendly and can set up auditions through Jennifer Hunt at 817-891-3584. Today-Feb. 21 - Students can help a charity and attempt to gain a closer parking place. NE Campus Phi Theta Kappa is raising money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. For every $1 donation, students receive a chance to win a parking pass that will allow them to park in the yellow faculty/staff parking spaces in any of the parking lots on the NE Campus. Ticket sales are Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the ATB lobby. The drawing will be Feb. 21 during the PTK orientation that begins at 12:30 p.m. Students may purchase tickets before the meeting in the Student Center's Center Corner. Today - NE Campus will hold its second Northeast Art Association meeting for all interested students 2-4 p.m. in FAB 172. NEAA is a student-based organization of all art-related clubs, performing and visual artists, art historians, creative writers and undeclared art students. A buffet lunch will be served. Today - Students can learn how to combine learning styles and practical tips for a successful testing experience in Test Your Best. Sponsored by the NE Campus counseling center, the presentation is 12:30-1:50 p.m. in College Hall, CAB 112. Thursday, Feb. 13 - LuAnn Krey, coordinator of career and employment services, will help students build a strong resume to assist them in their job search. The presentation is 12:30 p.m. in C-112 on NW Campus. . Friday, Feb. 14 - Pathway to Success É Personality>College Degree>Career will offer advice on choosing a career, identifying ideal job characteristics and knowing how one's personality type can help in a degree/career selection. Joe Reed will conduct the seminar at 12:30 p.m. in C-112 on NW Campus. Monday, Feb. 17 - Students who need to relieve themselves from everyday stress can attend Stress and Road Rage-How to Survive. Larry Kimble will present techniques for coping with stress at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in C-112 on NW Campus. Monday, Feb. 17 - Most people usually cite public speaking as their number one fear. The NE Campus Writing and Speech Anxieties presentation will help students learn to manage the normal anxiety that comes with public speaking. Students can also apply the techniques to social situations. The workshop is 2-3:30 p.m. in College Hall, CAB 112. Monday, Feb. 17 - NW Campus is sponsoring the Fat and Cholesterol Seminar 1-2 p.m. in A-210. The free event features Dana Tarter, nutrition specialist from the Texas Cooperative Extension. Tuesday, Feb. 18 - Students who want to make straight As can meet with Reta Fretwell for Testing and Studying Skills on NW Campus 12:30 p.m. in C-112. Feb. 18-19 - The NE Campus is offering Resume Development seminars Tuesday 12:30-2 p.m. and Wednesday, 5-5:50 p.m. in the Student Center 178. Feb. 19-20 - Students are invited to meet with Dr. Larry Darlage, NE Campus president, at one of two Student Forums Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 12:30 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the ATB lobby. Students can ask questions and make suggestions regarding issues on campus. Refreshments will be provided. Thursday, Feb. 20 - TCC Computer User Group will hear Cell Phones and the Web, a presentation by Bill Sproull and Sprint's Samethea Brockington 1-4 p.m. in the NE Campus Student Center's Center Corner. Thursday, Feb. 20 - Dr. Stephen Pemlinger will present The Healing Powers of Flower Essences 12:30 p.m. in C-112 on NW Campus. Pemlinger will explain how flower essence therapy can affect moods. Thursday, Feb. 20 - Degree Planning/Transferring Made Easy will help students design degree plans to ensure maximum credits when transferring. The workshop is scheduled for 5-5:50 p.m. in College Hall, CAB 112, and will be repeated Monday, March 3, 12:30-1:50 p.m. in College Hall. Friday, Feb. 21 - NW Campus will hold a math competition review 2-3 p.m. in N-210. |
