South to celebrate with urban drama

Blue Hill Avenue, the prize-winning urban drama, will be shown tomorrow on South Campus in celebration of Black History Month.

The 2001 Urban World Film Festival awarded Craig Ross Jr. with best director distinction, and the Acapulco Black Film Festival bestowed Blue Hill with best picture honors in the same year.

Based on a true story, leading man Tristan (Allen Payne) runs an underworld cartel with his childhood friends. His world comes crashing down when he must look in the mirror and question his ways.

Uncle Rob (Richard Lawson) attempts to dissuade Tristan from such a self-destructive lifestyle. Peer pressure and his woman's (Angelle Brooks) getting pregnant add to the tension. Ross won the best feature film honors from the Black Filmmaker Hall of Fame in 1998 for his debut Cappuccino. Ross studied at NYU Film School and directed three short films.

Blue Hill Avenue will show Thursday, Feb. 13, 12:30-2:30 p.m.in the SUB Living Room.
