A new trustee was appointed to serve on the TCC District Board of Trustees at the Jan. 22 board meeting.

Randall Canedy was sworn in by Trustee Kristin Vandergriff to replace Gary McClaskey, who is moving out of Tarrant County.

Canedy is president of the Frost Bank Mansfield Financial Center and served as a member of the SE Campus Advisory Committee for three years until 2001.

"I hope to perform in a manner Gary McClaskey has done," Canedy said. "I am pleased to be associated with the district."

Canedy, originally from Richmond, Va., has lived in Tarrant County with his family for 25 years. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in civil war history and political science.

Canedy has been involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Rotary Club of Mansfield, Mansfield ISD and the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield.

McClaskey said he enjoyed serving on the board.

"It has been a pleasure serving our customers: our students and the taxpayers," he said.

The board also elected Trustee Robyn Winnett as assistant secretary.

Contracts were approved for different phases of construction of the South Campus natatorium. Each contractor was rated according to company's experience, workers' experience, bid price and several other factors.

Five different contractors were chosen for the projects of selective demolition, concrete work, masonry, mechanical/plumbing and electrical work.

In other business, 18 faculty members were granted tenure. Each campus president submitted a list of select faculty members who have taught full-time a minimum of four years and are in good standing.

Faculty members granted tenure on SE Campus were Catherine Bottrell, assistant professor of government, and John Perkins, associate professor of history.

South Campus tenured faculty are Andrea Christian, assistant professor of nursing; Anthony Giardino, assistant professor of government; Thomas Hart, assistant professor of electronics; Annis Jones, assistant professor of nursing, and James McGaw, assistant professor of nursing.

NE Campus teachers approved for tenure are Carl Adams, assistant professor of mathematics, Renison Babulal, assistant professor of health information technology; Kourosh Behzadnoori, assistant professor of computer science; James Brooks, professor of psychology.

Also, Bonnie Creel, assistant professor of speech; Lynn Dally, assistant professor of art/graphic communications; Lori Fowler, associate professor of sociology; Yizeng Li, associate professor of mathematics; Jill Pool, assistant professor of physical therapist assistant, and Douglas Smith, associate professor of mathematics.
