Optimist to open club

A division of the Optimist Club has taken form on South Campus.

Servicing the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and many European countries, the Optimist International organization focuses on the mentoring of economically disadvantaged youths.

Rose Ann Flores, president, organized the club last October alongside the faculty sponsorship of Dr. T. G. Thomas.

Currently, the South Campus branch opened a program for Rosemont Middle School's students.

"We'd like to enhance the opportunity for the children who would otherwise not get an education," Thomas said.

This club currently has 35 members in the program, 32 of whom are students.

Flores and Thomas invite anyone who wishes to join. The Optimist Club meets every Friday at noon in the SUB.

Northwest Campus is currently in the process of starting its own Optimist Club.
