Area dons spurs, hats for rodeo

The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, commonly known as the Fort Worth Stock Show, is in full swing at the Will Rogers Center.

Weekend visitors can expect crowds moving like cattle through, well, cattle.

The Amon Carter Exhibit Hall is full of vendors selling a variety of goods, including cowboy hats, Miracle Blade knives (as seen on TV), log cabin homes and tractors.

Caterers also do big business during the show, serving barbecue, Mexican food, pizza and funnel cakes.

An eating area is available across from the exhibit hall with long tables to accommodate the crowds.

The midway has rides for kids of all ages. A large slide rises from the center and is popular with all carnival goers.

Small children may enjoy pony rides and a mini roller coaster while larger children may prefer the bumper cars or the spinning rides that make them dizzy.

The petting zoo is a free exhibit full of small and large mild-mannered animals like potbelly pigs, goats, llamas, baby kangaroos and sheep. Patrons may purchase a small amount of feed for $1.

The barns are full of beautiful specimens of horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. Though attendants keep the barns very clean, the odor is not always easy to stomach.

The Will Rogers Center is west of downtown Fort Worth in the Cultural District.

Admission to the grounds is $7 for adults, $3 for children. Gates are open 8 a.m.-10 p.m. daily through Sunday, Feb. 2.
