South plans full semester of intramural activities
by Brian Wainstein, Reporter
South Campus has a new sports schedule
for the spring semester.
First signups
for South Campus activities started as early as Jan. 22, for the Campus
Recreational and Intramural Sports (CRIS) Century Club.
Other sports
events will begin in February.
The Century Club's
motto is "Get Fit for the Health of It," and the group encourages
South Campus students, faculty and staff to pursue aerobic exercise.
The club employs
an incentive-based program to encourage participants to succeed. Participants
monitor how many miles they walk, run, or climb on the Stairmaster during
free play and open recreation.
Officials set
mileage goals for participants, who can win prizes if they meet their
goals. Once signed up, participants can carry mileage over semesters during
an academic year, as long as they remain in credit classes or year-round
community education programs.
Other activities
planned for the semester include indoor soccer and racquetball tournaments,
with sign-ups starting Feb. 10 and play commencing Feb. 12; a table-tennis
tournament, with sign-ups starting Feb. 17 and play commencing Feb. 19.
Also scheduled
is "March Madness," basketball, involving a free-throw and three-point
shoot-out, with sign ups starting March 17 and play beginning March 24;
and 4-on-4 volleyball, with sign-ups starting March 31 and play commencing
April 2.
Details regarding
"March Madness," the second annual free-throw contest and first
three-point shoot-out, celebrating the NCAA's college basketball tournaments,
will be available closer to sign-ups. For any questions, contact Scott
J. Clark, CRIS director, at 817-515-4543.
