CD REVIEWS

The Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely (4.5 stars)
Jack White’s side project, The Raconteurs, released its second album, Consolers of the Lonely.

The CD sounds like one big jam session—just a group of musicians having a blast.

But their fun translates into a hypnotic, riff-filled joy for anyone looking for some off-kiltered rock.

Everyone knows what White can do with one so-so drummer, so think what he can accomplish with a trio of talented musicians.

This album is a perfect example of that.

Consolers of the Lonely is a fantastically fun album, showcasing entertaining melodies and riffs.

DeVotchKa A Mad and Faithful Telling (4.5 stars)
Fans of Clockwork Orange know where DeVotchKa got its name, but where it got the eclectic sound found in its new album, A Mad and Faithful Telling, is another story.

The band ventures into classical, Mexican, gypsy, carnival, Eastern European and almost every musical genre outside the norm.

The singer warbles bizarre lyrics that are strangely affecting and never over-the-top or pretentious.

DeVotchKa’s newest album shows how far the group is willing to go and how much it pays off.

A Mad and Faithful Telling is a refreshing album worth a chance.

Black Tide Light From Above (4 stars)
The Black Tide explodes onto the metal scene with its new LP, Light From Above. This band distinguishes itself with face melting heavy metal guitar work, accompanied with hard rock vocals for an original sound. The source of this sound is even more shocking than the band’s talent; Gabriel Garcia is the lead guitarist and singer for Black Tide. He may be 15, but he has the spirit of a rock god, producing charged riffs that would elicit appreciative nods from the kings of 1980s hair metal.

A mix of Metallica interludes, vocals that scream Buckcherry and Dragonforce harmonies, this is one CD metal fans and just fans of good music will want to add to their collection.
