'Legal' trumps common sense
An Orthodox Jew was removed from a United Airlines flight after not returning to his seat during a prayer last week.

Shortly after boarding, the man made his way to the back of the plane, and as is Jewish custom, once a prayer is started, it may be interrupted only in an emergency.

Other passengers aboard the plane said the man’s friends tried to explain the religious law and told attendants the prayer would be finished in two minutes. But the plane was getting ready for take off, and all passengers were required to take their seats.

Candidates lacking for TCC's best interest

The upcoming elections for the TCCD board of trustees has caused quite a stir, as two of the men running for a seat may not be well-suited to the district.

This year, the board’s most prominent and long-standing member, Dr. J. Ardis Bell, who represents the district around NE Campus, is retiring from his position, and his hand-picked successor, Conrad Heede, is facing unprecedented aggressive opposition from another contender, Joe Hudson.

I remember a high school coach saying we would make three mistakes in an upcoming game … and he was right; we lost the game.

Just like that game, since high school, I have made some mistakes too. Here are my top three.

Legal acumen crucial for court

by Season Weeter

reporter
An astonishing average of 80 percent of parties filing petitions in court across the United States are representing themselves pro se with less than 10 percent of pro se parties actually winning their cases.

I was involved in such an experience when a judge asked me if I expected her to treat me differently from any attorney who came before her.
