Grants

Grants are gift aid that you're awarded based on your expected family contribution, which is calculated from the FAFSA. Applying for grants early is always best, but not mandatory.

Submit your FAFSA now to be eligible for grants.

Pell Grant

A Federal Pell Grant does not have to be repaid. It is a federal grant awarded to you based on your expected family contribution, which is calculated from the FAFSA. Award amounts range between $303 to $2,960 per semester (maximum of two full-time semesters per academic year). Most recipients may enroll in at least one credit hour. Pell grants are considered an entitlement program. Therefore, you are required to have a fully processed application by your last date of enrollment to receive this aid program.

  • Pell Grant Lifetime Limit: Federal law limits the amount you may receive over your lifetime to the equivalent of six years of Pell Grant funding. Since the maximum amount of Pell Grant funding you can receive each year is equal to 100%, the six-year equivalent is 600% or 12 full-time semesters. For more information regarding Pell Grant lifetime limits, please visit the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid website.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

A federal grant available if you have demonstrated need. Award amounts range from $200 to $800 per semester. Priority is given to early applicants. You must be enrolled in at least three hours. An FSEOG does not have to be paid back.

Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG)

TPEG is a state program available if you're an eligible student in credit classes to help you meet your financial need. Generally awarded to early applicants. Credit TPEG award amounts range from $200 to $1,300 per semester.

Continuing education TPEG funding is available if you're an eligible continuing education student with demonstrated need who enrolls in state-funded classes. Continuing education TPEG awards can be used for tuition only and are generally up to $400 per quarter. Learn more about applying for CE TPEG funding.

Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)

TEOG is a need-based financial assistance grant available to Texas residents.

TEOG initial (TEOGI) award basic requirements:

TEOG renewal (TEOGR) can be received for subsequent years (SY) provided that you have not attempted over 75 college credits.

TEOG is contingent upon the availability of state funds and will be canceled in the event state funds are no longer available.

Hardship Provision (19 TAC, Section 22.259)

If you're ineligible for subsequent TEOG awards based on an ineligible status, TCC can conduct an individual review to see if you can be deemed eligible under a Hardship Provision.

You may submit a written TEOG appeal explaining any circumstance that caused you to be placed on an ineligible TEOG status through one of the following:

If you exceed the maximum attempted hours of 75, you are not eligible for Hardship Provision.

Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) Program for Dual Credit Students

TCC participates in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) Program. The FAST program provides funding to TCC so we can offer no-cost dual credit courses to educationally disadvantaged students. The Texas Education Code (TEC) defines "educationally disadvantaged" as those students eligible for the national free/reduced-price lunch program.

FAST allows TCC to waive tuition and learning material (book) costs for all FAST-eligible dual credit students. FAST tuition waivers and FAST program book expenses awards can be viewed in MyTCCTrack. FAST book awards are disbursed to students through TCC's standard Financial Aid disbursement schedule.

Review TCC's FAST program FAQs for more information.

Supplemental Grants

The College's supplemental grant funding (all grants except federal Pell Grants) is limited and generally awarded to early applicants. TCC's basic financial aid awarding philosophy attempts to award grants in amounts sufficient to cover full-time tuition and book expenses, on a first-come, first-served basis until the grant funding is depleted.

Applications are available in October, and you are encouraged to apply by March to increase your likelihood of receiving a grant(s). Once awarded, you may apply tuition charges to all grant programs.

Note: TCC also participates in many of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's (THECB's) Exemptions, Waivers, Scholarships and other Aid programs. More information can be found on the THECB: College for All Texans website.
