Train the Trainer Workshops: Financial Literacy

Employees participating in these workshops will be able to lead financial empowerment sessions for Southeast Campus "Extreme Money Management" events throughout the year. Depending on your interests, you may attend as many or as few of these train the trainer sessions as you would like.

Employees seeking professional development credit for participating in this event will need to get permission from their supervisors.

Each session will certify participants to deliver each Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) Financial Literacy Mini-module.

Individual Sessions

  • 9 - 10 a.m.: Needs vs Wants, Prioritizing What Counts
Helps students think about the differences between things that are fundamental necessities as opposed to desires or preferences and how these things can vary across time and circumstance.
  • 10 - 11 a.m.: Setting Goals: Getting There
Discusses several facets of financial goal-setting, including how specific the goals are and the time frame set for the goals. Also covers how trade-offs and priorities apply to financial goals and how regular savings can protect long-term goals from being derailed by unexpected expenses.
  • 11 - noon: Spending Plans: Meeting Goals the Simple Way
Explores strategic thinking as it relates to income and expenses. Also includes information on reducing spending and planning ahead not only for monthly bills but also for sometimes forgotten things like regular savings and expenses that aren't part of each month's budget.
  • 1 - 2 p.m.: Credit Basics: How Money Works
Demonstrates how borrowers can use future income to make large purchases, such as an education or a house. Also explores how lenders make money, the cost of borrowing and tips for maintaining creditworthiness.
  • 2 - 3 p.m.: College Costs: More than Tuition
Provides an overview of the expenses and income that would be incorporated in a college student's spending plan. Also focuses on the expenses in an institution's cost of attendance, other expenses and different sources of support, including financial aid.
