Art Corridor II at Tarrant County College's Southeast Campus is pleased to present a solo exhibition of drawings and paintings by the artist Rachel Bounds. She has been an integral part of the art community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, serving as associate curator at the Arlington Museum of Art and serving with Sister Cities, Fort Worth.
Bounds' paintings and drawings are solemn and brooding, vacillating between the macabre and visions of the prehistoric and serene. Her images of dark places, murky botanicals, and soot covered canaries are unrelenting glimpses into coal mines and the “Buried Sunshine” we use to fuel our lives.
Bounds writes, “I have been working in black and white since 2003 with my oil paintings as part of an ongoing body of work revolving around coal mining. The birds started as a reference to 'canaries in a coal mine.'”
