Program Costs & Dates

As a cadet you have the option to attend the Police Academy for college credit or for non-credit.

If you choose the credit route, and you complete the program successfully, you will receive up to 18 hours of college credit. These hours will be applied to an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

Credit Tuition Costs

Effective January 1, 2019:

  • Credit, college credit plus certification: $1,152
  • Out-of-county: $2,268
  • Out-of-state: $5,490

Non-Credit Cost

  • Non-Credit, certification only: $900

Days & Times

  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • 20 weeks
  • 776 hours

The Basic Peace Officer course is offered only during the daytime.

2019–2020 Academy Dates

  • Class 198
    January 6–May 20, 2020
    Applications for independent cadets are due by December 2, 2019.
    Last day to register for credit courses is January 2, 2020.
  • Class 199
    March 9–July 23, 2020
    Applications for independent cadets are due by January 20, 2020.
    Last day to register for credit courses is February 20, 2020.
  • Class 200
    May 4–September 17, 2020
  • Class 201—shift-based academy for full-time firefighters
    April 14, 2020—TBN
  • Class 202
    July 6–November 19, 2020
  • Class 203
    October 12, 2020–March 11, 2021

Note: Dates for classes 198–202 are subject to change because of TCOLE's pending updates to the Basic Peace Officer course curriculum.
