Emergency Medical Technician
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program—our entry-level certification—teaches basic life support procedures. EMTs work alongside paramedics in the delivery of pre-hospital care.
What do I need to work as an EMT?
Texas EMT Certification
Successfully complete these 2 courses:
- EMSP-1501 Emergency Medical Technician
- EMSP-1160 Clinical—Emergency Medical Technician
And you can qualify to:
- Apply to the Texas Department of State Health Services for Texas EMT Certification
- Take the National Registry of EMTs examination for Emergency Medical Technician certification
- Work as an EMT
- Apply to our Paramedic Programs
What about the TCC EMT Certificate?
If you need financial aid to be able to earn Texas EMT Certification, then you will need to complete our Emergency Medical Technician Certificate.

Fall Semester
16-week courses begin in August.
- Monday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Tuesday & Thursday: 1–5 p.m. or 6–10 p.m.
Spring Semester
16-week courses begin in January.
- Monday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Tuesday & Thursday: 1–5 p.m. or 6–10 p.m.
Summer I & II Semesters
10-week courses begin in early June.
Daytime class:
- Days: Tuesday & Thursday
- Time: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
or
Evening class:
- Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
- Time: 6–10 p.m.
Cost
This cost estimate is for Tarrant County residents. We have made an effort to identify the current cost of all books and materials, as well as estimates for the cost of meals and parking while on clinical rotations.
If you reside outside of Tarrant County, you can expect to pay more in tuition and fees.

How to Enroll
Open Enrollment
- Apply to TCC.
- Once you are accepted as a student at TCC, you will get a TCC Student ID number.
- You need a TCC Student ID number to enroll in our EMT Program.
- Make sure you meet the enrollment requirements.
- Our EMT program is open enrollment, so no prior approval is required from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program.
- However, you must meet the program enrollment requirements.
