What do they do?

The radiologic technologist uses advanced technological equipment to produce images of patients' internal body structures for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Technologists also provide high quality care to keep patients safe and comfortable.

The role of the radiologic technologist is diverse and offers many pathways within diagnostic imaging. At the forefront of medical imaging, the technologist must be able to work with confidence in pressure situations.

Think seriously about these questions:

  • Why do you want to pursue a career as a radiologic technologist?
  • What do you think the daily responsibilities are for a radiologic technologist?
  • Our program is very demanding—many class assignments, strict deadlines, long hours, travel to clinical rotations, etc. What strategies do you plan to use to be successful academically in our program?
  • The clinical portion of the program requires travel to hospitals and imaging centers. Do you foresee any problems with this requirement?
  • Constructive criticism is a necessary and essential element of our entire program to help you develop your skills as a radiographer. How do you react when you receive constructive criticism from others?
  • How have you managed a situation in which you had to interact with a person who was difficult to get along with?
  • Patients having x-ray examinations at a hospital can be challenging due to factors such as blood and body fluids, communication difficulties, or movement difficulties. They may not be fully conscious. They may not speak English. How do you feel about learning to perform x-ray exams on patients with these challenges?
  • What will you do if you are not accepted into our program?

Our Mission

To graduate radiologic technologists who demonstrate clinical competency, professionalism, critical thinking skills and communication skills.

Our Program Goals

Upon successful completion of our program, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Goal 1: You will demonstrate clinical competence.
    • Apply positioning skills correctly.
    • Utilize correct exposure technique.
  • Goal 2: You will demonstrate professionalism.
    • Engage in various professionalism activities.
    • Model professionalism within the clinical setting.
  • Goal 3: You will demonstrate critical thinking skills.
    • Employ critical thinking skills to evaluate radiographic images.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking skills based on patient condition.
  • Goal 4: You will demonstrate communication skills.
    • Communicate effectively based on patient needs.
    • Exhibit communication skill in the academic environment.
