About Our Classes
Our Police Academy, located on Northwest Campus in Fort Worth, prepares a cadet for a career in law enforcement. Classes consist of a combination of classroom and skills training.
We run approximately 6 basic academies a year, with classes Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. for a 19-week period.
Earn a Certificate of Completion
Once cadets complete our program, they will take the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer Licensing Exam at our testing center.
The TCOLE report on the Basic Peace Officer Licensing Examination pass rate for 76 state academies for Fiscal Years 2008 to 2016 states that 557 cadets from the TCC Police Academy achieved a 100% pass rate!
Before applying directly to our program, we encourage you to apply for employment to police agencies in North Texas, who may send you through the police academy as an employee. During the employment process, you may complete coursework toward our Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice.
If you are entering our program without a policy agency and are a:
- Credit student and you complete the program successfully, you will earn a basic peace officer certificate and 15 college credit hours. These hours will be applied to the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice at TCC.
- Continuing education student, you can earn a basic peace officer certificate.
- Military veteran, you can earn a basic peace officer certificate. You may qualify for credit for military service, and can apply your coursework from the Police Academy towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice. You must provide advance notice to the Northwest Campus Admissions and Registrar Office on how to apply your VA education benefits before enrolling in the Police Academy.
