How to Apply: Prerequisites & Instructions

Plan Ahead!

Earning your Long Term Care Administration certification and preparing for HHSC licensure as well as NAB is a multiple-step process.

Start by applying to our LTCA program early. Waiting until a few days before the application deadline will substantially decrease your chances of admission.

Prepare for Licensure Exams

Our program is designed to provide the academic requirements for the:

  • Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) licensure exam
  • National Association of Long Term Care Administration Boards (NAB)

To be eligible to take the exam, HHSC requires that you have:

  • A completed bachelor’s degree
  • 15 academic credit hours in Long Term Care Administration
  • 12 hours, including a 1,000-hour internship in an approved long-term care facility
  • Completion of 27 hours total academic & clinical training
Internship / Clinical Training

During your internship / clinical training, we will supervise and monitor your training and learning experiences directly. You will be assigned a facility where you will complete your training.

Our faculty members will visit periodically and will share with the facility’s mentoring administrator. Additionally, training students will meet with their peers at least monthly for dialogue, reflection, and time of sharing and learning.

If you choose to fulfill your internship on your own, you will not receive supervision by our faculty, nor will you receive a certificate of completion for our program.

Summer Clinical Options

If you want to train during the summer, we offer these 2 courses during the summer semester:
