Licensing Notice: Texas House Bill 1508

This program prepares you for an occupational license. However, you may not be eligible for licensing if you have a prior criminal history.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

You must have a minimum grade of “C” in the 3 science prerequisite courses, but most applicants selected for admission have a science GPA of 3.4 or higher.

All general education courses require at least a grade of “C.”

TCC Student ID Number

First, you must apply to TCC.

Once you are accepted as a student at TCC, you will get a TCC Student ID number.

You need a TCC Student ID number for your application to our Nursing Program.

The science courses listed below will not be accepted if they are over 5 years old.

Courses to Complete Before Applying to Nursing

the following science courses must be completed prior to applying for admission to the Nursing Program:

• BIOL-2401 Anatomy & Physiology I
• BIOL-2402 Anatomy & Physiology II
• BIOL-2420 Microbiology for Non-Science Majors (Lecture + Lab) or
  BIOL-2421 Microbiology for Science Majors (Lecture + Lab)

SCIT courses do not transfer to the A.A.S. degree.

Transcript Evaluation

International students must submit a transcript evaluation.

Performance Requirements

During your time in our program and throughout your career, you must meet performance requirements to ensure patient safety and welfare.

Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI A2) Admission Test

HESI A2 is the required admission test for Nursing.

You must earn a minimum score of 75 on each section of the HESI A2.

The test has 5 sections:

• Anatomy & Physiology
• Grammar
• Math
• Reading
• Vocabulary

Language Proficiency

If English was not the primary language of your high school, you must provide documentation of proof of English proficiency by submitting the results of either of the following tests.

Required time frame: You must have taken 1 of the tests and earned the passing score or higher within the 2 years prior to your application to our program.

• TOEFL iBT®
  (Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  You must earn a passing score of 83. This is the recommended score to apply for licensure from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON).
• IELTS
  (International English Language Testing System assessment of English language proficiency)
  You must earn an IELTS Band Score of overall 6.5 with a minimum score of 6 in all areas. This is the recommended score to apply for licensure from BON.

If you graduated from a high school in one of these English-speaking countries—Canada (other than Quebec), Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland—you must provide documentation of your graduation.

If you graduated from a high school in an English-speaking country not mentioned above, you must provide official transcripts and a notarized letter from the high school's headmaster or principal stating that English was the primary language of the courses taught.

Immunizations

The Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation Community Standards (PDF)Listen require that all students in health-related programs complete the following immunizations before applying to programs where patient contact is a component.

If you know you will be applying to our Nursing Program within the next year, you will need to start these now because some will take up to 6 months to complete the series.

In order to be eligible to apply, you will need to have proof that you have completed the following immunizations:

• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): 2 doses required or (+) titer
• Tdap: every 10 years
• Varicella (Chicken Pox): either (+) titer or 2 injections
• Hepatitis B: a series of 3 doses required (takes 6 months to complete) or (+) titer
• Hepatitis A: a series of 2 doses required (takes 6 months to complete) or (+) titer

Note: Titers showing positive immunity to the diseases will be acceptable.

If you are under 22 years of age:

• Submit proof of MCV4 (Meningitis vaccination) to your campus Admissions & Registrar Office.

Required Screening

Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test or T-Spot

If positive, a chest x-ray and the TB Questionnaire (PDF)Listen are required.
