Institutional Review Board

The Tarrant County College TCCD (TCCD) Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a standing IRB established in 2013 in compliance with federal policy for the protection of human subjects of research. The IRB reviews all TCCD-proposed human subject research, regardless of funding.

The mission of the IRB is to:

  • minimize the risk of human subjects participating in TCCD research processes,
  • promote ethical standards for conducting TCCD research and
  • protect the TCCD’s interests by ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

The IRB ensures that:

  • the rights and welfare of human research subjects that participate in TCCD research are protected,
  • subjects receive appropriate information regarding their participation and informed consent,
  • researchers protect private information through anonymity and/or confidentiality and
  • the researcher provides the researcher(s) credentials in terms of their qualification to conduct research.

Research is conducted in accordance with federal, institutional and ethical guidelines. Approval of proposed research by the IRB does not indicate endorsement of its scientific validity or approval of its ethical content. Exception is taken with respect to the rights of human subjects, and does not affect the TCCD's legal liability for adverse consequences of research. The IRB cannot review research for which funding has already been approved or that has already been performed.
