Our Integrated Reading & Writing Developmental Studies program is required if you have not met college readiness standards on the Integrated Reading & Writing section of the TSI Assessment.

Your TSI Integrated Reading & Writing scores determine your placement in our program.

Your 3 Integrated Reading & Writing scores:

  • College Readiness Classification (CRC) Score
  • Diagnostic Level
  • Essay Score

Schedule an appointment with an advisor to talk about your options. Your advisor will be able to help make sure you take the correct pathway and required courses.

Step 2: Find Your TSI Scores and Determine Your Required Courses

Use your Integrated Reading & Writing scores to find the right courses for you.

INRW–0190 Adult Education Reading & Writing

Enroll in INRW-0190 Adult Education Reading & Writing if you receive these TSI scores:

  • CRC Score 910-944, Diagnostic Level 1–3, and No Essay
    or
  • CRC Score 910-944, Diagnostic Level 4, and Essay Score 1–8
    • Note: 5+ in this scenario will not give you a TSI met status

About This Course

INRW–0190 is a free course that improves your basic reading and writing skills.

You will study:

  • Individualized development of reading comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Word usage
  • Sentence structure
  • Relationships among ideas in written material

INRW–0399 Integrated Reading & Writing II

Take an approved college-level core course and an Integrated Reading & Writing developmental course at the same time.

Check your TSI scores or your course grade:

  • TSI Scores:
    • CRC Score 910-944, Diagnostic Level 5–6, and Essay Score of 1–4
      or
    • CRC Score 945-990 and Essay Score 1–4
  • Course Grade: INRW–0190 Grade of C or better

About This Course

INRW–0399 is a 3-hour developmental course. This course builds your critical thinking, reading, and academic writing skills.

You will study:

  • Grammar
  • Mechanics
  • Sentence structure
  • Use of Standard English
  • Reading comprehension
  • Reading and analyzing a variety of academic texts

Earn a C or better in INRW–0399 to fulfill your TSI requirements for Reading and Writing.

INRW–0114 Non-Course-Based Reading/Writing

If you have received these TSI scores:

  • CRC Score 945-990 and Essay Score 4

Enroll in these co-requisite courses:

Take your required college-level core course and INRW–0114 at the same time.

About this Non-Course-Based Option (NCBO)

INRW–0114 is free and does not add any class time to your schedule. Access support and resources designed to help you with your core course.
