Opt Out or Opt In to TCC Plus

TCC allows students to opt out of having TCC Plus (Powered by First Day™) discounted digital textbooks included in their class cost. If you enroll in a TCC Plus class but do not want to use or be charged for the digital textbook and other course materials, you can choose to opt out.

Check with your instructor before opting out to learn how it may affect you during the semester.

When is the deadline to opt out of TCC Plus?

The earliest you can opt out of TCC Plus is 7 days prior to your class start date, when your course becomes available in Canvas.

The last day to opt out is the official day of record (census date) for your course, found on the current TCC Academic Calendar.

How do I opt out of TCC Plus?

To opt out of TCC Plus,

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Find and select the Course Material link, located under the course you want to opt-out of receiving TCC Plus.
  3. Select the Want to opt-out? button for your course.
  4. Submit.

After submission, you will receive a refund for your TCC Plus materials.

What happens after I opt out of TCC Plus?

After you opt out, you will immediately lose access to the TCC Plus digital course materials. You will need to secure the required course materials on your own, generally at a higher cost than the negotiated price of TCC Plus course materials.

If you’ve already paid for TCC Plus, the charge will be removed from your tuition bill and your refund will be processed.

Will opting out affect me during the semester?

Check with your instructor to learn how opting out may affect your access to course materials required to successfully complete your course.

Can I opt back into TCC Plus if I want to use the provided digital textbook and course materials?

If you previously opted out, you may opt back in through the census date for your semester. However, if it is past the census date, you will need to purchase the required materials on your own.

To opt back in to TCC Plus,

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Find and select the Course Material link, located under the course you want to opt-out of receiving TCC Plus.
  3. Select the Want to opt-in? button for your course.
  4. Submit.

After submission, you will regain access your digital textbook and other course materials.

When you have opted back in, the charges will be added back to your tuition bill and a registration block will be placed on your account until you pay for these charges.

Can I switch to a different non-TCC Plus class?

You may change course sections as long as registration is still open and seats are available in those sections not participating in the TCC Plus program.
