Hispanic Serving Institution Designation

Tarrant County College has proudly been a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) since 2012.

What is a Hispanic Serving Institution designation?

An HSI designation is a federal designation by the U.S. Department of Education.

To be eligible for the designation, at least 25% of TCC's full-time undergraduate student enrollment must be Hispanic students.

As of Fall 2022, 37% of TCC's full-time students are Hispanic.

How does a Hispanic Serving Institution designation support students?

Being an HSI allows TCC to apply for more grants. These extra funds can help the College expand resources and offer increased support so Hispanic students and students with low-socioeconomic status can complete their education. Our graduates go on to join the workforce and change the economic future for their family and Tarrant County.

While targeted toward Hispanic and low-income students, all programs and services are available to all students.

What Hispanic Serving Institution initiatives does TCC have?

College, Career, and Life Readiness Title V Grant

TCC received the "College, Career, and Life Readiness" Title V grant in October 2020.

This grant helps students become:

  • College-ready by shortening their time spent in developmental courses.
  • Career-ready through case management with a Career Advisor and student activities (such as conferences).
  • Life-ready through financial literary programs and leadership development.

The grant also helps our faculty and staff become student-ready through targeted training events.

Title V is an opportunity for TCC to link our HSI designation with what we do: serve students and the community. We can be better prepared and equipped to support students in achieving their academic and career goals.
