Apprenticeship Information for Students

TCC's structured occupational programs combine on-the-job training with related classroom instruction so you can learn both the practical and conceptual skills required for a skilled occupation, craft, or trade.

Employers in agreements with the Department of Labor often hire apprentices after they graduate.

Benefits for Students

  • Learn an in-demand career. Completing an apprenticeship program means you'll have a long-term career and greater earning potential.
  • Earn competitive wages. You'll earn a paycheck from day 1, with incremental raises as skill levels increase.
  • Receive a nationally recognized credential. The Department of Labor will issue your certificate after you complete the program.
  • Graduate with minimum or no debt. Earning income while you attend classes reduces the need for loans.

Requirements for Apprenticeships

  • Must be a full-time W2 employee.
  • Complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of On-the-Job Learning Training (OJL) per year. OJL is provided by an experienced mentor, coach, journey-level, or master craftsman.
  • Complete a minimum of 144 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) per year. RTI must supplement OJL and provide technical and academic competencies that apply to the job.
