Courses in Detail

INRW-0090 College Readiness Reading and Writing

Helps you improve your basic reading and writing skills.

You will study:

  • Individualized development of reading comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Word usage
  • Sentence structure
  • Relationships among ideas in written material

Placement

Based on these TSI-A results:

  • Reading score of 310–341 and ABE Level 1–4
  • Writing score of 310–349 and ABE Level 1–4

INRW-0395 Integrated Reading and Writing I

Combines 3-hour lecture and 1-hour lab in 1 performance-based course.

Helps you develop your critical reading and academic writing skills.

You will study:

  • Individualized development of comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Relationships among ideas in written material
  • Reading a variety of academic texts
  • Grammar
  • Word Usage
  • Sentence Structure
  • Use of Standard American English

Placement

Based on these TSI-A results :

  • Reading score of 310–341 and ABE Level 5 or 6 or a score of 342–348
    and/or
  • Writing score of 310–349 and ABE Level 5 or 6 with an essay score between 0–4
    or
  • Writing score of 350–359 with an essay score between 0–4
    or
  • Writing score of 360–390 with an essay score between 0–3

INRW-0399 Integrated Reading and Writing II

Combines 3-hour lecture and1-hour lab in 1 performance-based course.

Helps you develop your critical thinking, reading and academic writing skills.

You will study :

  • Grammar
  • Mechanics
  • Sentence Structure
  • Use of Standard English
  • Reading comprehension
  • Reading and analyzing a variety of academic texts

If you earn a C or better, this course fulfills TSI requirements for reading and writing.

Placement

Based on:

  • Successful completion of INRW-0395
    or
  • These TSI-A results:
    • Reading score of 349–350
      or
    • Writing score of 360–362 and an essay score of 4
