Language Pathway Program

Our Language Pathway Program (LPP) helps F-1 visa international students meet English proficiency admission standards and improve their English.

LPP helps you build the English language skills you need to be successful in your college studies in the U.S. Take English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses to prepare for a Student Exchange and Visitor (SEVP)-certified degree program.

This program is not only about taking courses. This program will give you time to adjust to the U.S. and its academic system. You will also get to know American culture. We offer activities outside of regular classes for you to spend time with native English speakers and practice your English skills.

Am I eligible for LPP?

You are eligible if:

• You were accepted to TCC as an F-1 visa student, but you did not pass the reading or writing portions of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2),
  or
• You plan to apply for admission as a first-time-in-college F-1 visa student at TCC, but you have a:
  • Score on the internet-based TOEFL between 30 and 70, or
  • Score on IELTS (overall band) between 3 and 6

You are not eligible if you:

• Have passed the reading and writing portions of the TSI-A.

What courses will I take?

You will take ESOL courses and credit subject courses that are part of your degree program. These courses together make up a full-time course load (12 or more credit hours per semester).

Work with your career advisor and International Student Admissions & Compliance to maintain all F-1 Visa requirements.

Our instructors focus on improving your English through practice in 4 ESOL skills:

• Oral Communication:
  • ESOL-0301 Oral Communication 1
  • ESOL-0302 Oral Communication 2
  • ESOL-0303 Oral Communication 3
• Grammar:
  • ESOL-0304 Grammar for Non-Native Speakers 1
  • ESOL-0305 Grammar for Non-Native Speakers 2
  • ESOL-0306 Grammar for Non-Native Speakers 3
• Reading & Vocabulary:
  • ESOL-0307 Reading & Vocabulary 1
  • ESOL-0308 Reading & Vocabulary 2
  • ESOL-0309 Reading & Vocabulary 3
• Writing:
  • ESOL-0310 Writing for Non-Native Speakers 1
  • ESOL-0311 Writing for Non-Native Speakers 2
  • ESOL-0312 Writing for Non-Native Speakers 3

Each skill has lower-advanced, middle-advanced, and upper-advanced levels to meet your needs. Every class may not be offered at every TCC campus every semester.
