Definition
A distance learning course is any course in which a student receives more than one-half of the instruction at a different location from that of the instructor.
Goals
The Vice President of Academic Affairs for TCC Connect, in collaboration with the appropriate College District administrators and faculty, shall be responsible for:
- Providing approval, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of distance education courses and programs;
- Implementing and managing effective instructional technology and related resources to facilitate distance education courses and programs;
- Ensuring all distance education courses and programs are comparable and meet the quality standards applicable to on-campus courses and programs;
- Providing faculty members with ongoing technical and pedagogical training and with support services that are appropriate and specific to distance education;
- Ensuring that students enrolled in distance education courses are provided appropriate academic services, student services, and technical support;
- Providing distance education students with an adequate procedure for resolving complaints; and
- Verifying the identities of distance education students. This includes verifying that
the student registering for a course is the same student who participates in the course
or receives credit by using at least one of three methods:
- A secure login and password, such as Learning Management system username and password;
- Proctored exams; or
- New or other technologies and practices that are effective in verifying student identification.
