Financial aid displacement occurs when your financial aid is reduced due to receipt of a private scholarship or other reasons identified in this advisory.
How to apply for gift aid at TCC
At TCC, to apply for gift aid (such as grants, scholarships, or waivers), you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application State Financial Aid (TASFA). In addition, you may also apply for scholarships through the TCC foundation.
Timeline for financial aid processes at TCC
Students who are fully admitted to TCC, apply for aid, and complete all paperwork by March 1 will be considered for federal, state and institutional aid. All others will be considered for available aid.
Recommendations to maximize gift aid award
- Complete FAFSA or TASFA as soon as the application is available in October.
- Report all information accurately on the FAFSA or TASFA.
- Reapply annually for aid as changes in family income affect eligibility for aid.
- Seek outside, private scholarships and apply for them throughout the year.
- Make good grades in all coursework attempted to optimize scholarship opportunities.
Recommendations to limit the reduction of gift aid
- Report all anticipated outside, private scholarships to the financial aid office as soon as possible.
- Understand your Cost of Attendance.
- Alert the financial aid office about special or unusual circumstances that may affect your eligibility for aid by submitting the appropriate forms and documents.
