The Texas Public Information Act (PIA) allows citizens to request records from governmental institutions. However, it also allows these institutions to withhold records in specific instances.

Designation of Nonbusiness Days

Texas Government Code Section 552.0031 (f) allows public entities to designate "nonbusiness days" which is defined as "a day on which the governmental body's administrative offices are closed or operating with minimum staffing." A maximum number of 10 nonbusiness days may be designated each calendar year. Such designation must be made by the executive director or chief administrative officer.

The effect of the designation is that such nonbusiness days will not count against calculation of deadlines under the Texas Public Information Act. The public information officer will post this designation on Tarrant County College's website under the section regarding Open Records Requests.

The following are designated as nonbusiness days for the 2025-2026 fiscal year:

  2. December 23, 2025
  3. December 29, 2025
  4. December 30, 2025
  5. December 31, 2025
  6. January 2, 2026
  7. March 16, 2026
  8. March 17, 2026
  9. March 18, 2026
  10. March 19, 2026
