English as a Second Language (ESL)
Take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to improve your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. ESL classes help you to join the workforce, develop confidence, or enter college.
What ESL classes does TCC offer?
We offer 2 types of ESL classes. Choose the ESL program that fits your goals.
Workforce ESL
Choose Workforce ESL if you want to learn or improve your English to:
- Get a job, promotion, or raise
- Communicate better in your current job
- Manage everyday life
We offer six levels of English courses from Basic to Level 5. Every class may not be offered at every TCC campus every semester.
You can get help paying for these classes through the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG).
Pre-Academic ESL
Choose Pre-Academic ESL if you want to learn English to:
- Prepare for college-level courses
- Strengthen your knowledge and use of English grammar
We offer 3 levels of pre-academic ESL classes. Every class may not be offered at every TCC campus every semester.
Financial aid is not available for Pre-Academic ESL.
How do I register for ESL classes?
- Meet with an ELLP coordinator.
- You may be asked to complete the Michigan English Placement Test (M-EPT). This test will place you into a class that best meets your English abilities.
- Register for ESL classes.
Our ESL classes are taught in-person. We do not offer online ESL classes.
If you are on an F-1 visa and did not meet the English proficiency admission requirements, enroll in our Language Pathway Program.
