EMT Program Enrollment Requirements

Am I eligible to enroll?

Our EMT program is open enrollment, so no prior approval is required from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program.

If You Are Planning to Enroll

Please opt in now to receive TCC text notifications.

We will text you to make sure you are aware of the requirements you need to complete before you start the program.

During the semester, we will text to remind you of deadlines or other important program requirements.

You can opt in through MyTCCTrack.

Apply to TCC

Apply online with ApplyTCC (use Firefox or Chrome for the best experience)

Once you are accepted as a student at TCC, you will get a TCC Student ID number.

You need a TCC Student ID number before you enroll in our EMT Program.

Meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Requirements

You must meet the TSI requirements for college credit courses before enrolling in the EMT program courses.

Attend an Information Session

What You Need to Know

About 40% of EMT students drop and do not complete the program.

Avoid being part of that 40%: Attend 1 of our information sessions and find out what you need to know to stay in the program.

Open Enrollment

Our EMT program remains an open-enrollment program with no separate application required.

Information Session Details

Attending an information session is highly recommended (but not required) to learn how to register for classes and stay in the program.

No, you do not have to register to attend one of our Information Sessions.

When & Where

All information sessions will be held in person on TCC Northeast in the Health Sciences (NHSC) building. If your session is canceled, please attend the next available meeting and keep an eye on the website in case we add another informational meeting date.

What are the post-enrollment requirements?

If you are enrolled in our EMT Program for the Spring 2024 semester, you must attend the required meetings and meet post-registration requirements.

Do not attend the meetings unless you are enrolled in our EMT Program.

Step 1: Begin Completing Post-Registration Requirements

  1. Review Your EMT Packet

    We will send your EMT Packet to your my.tccd.edu email account.

    Email Health.Sciences@tccd.edu if you have not received the emailed packet within 1 week of registration.

  2. Meet Additional Requirements

    You need to be prepared to meet the following additional requirements—before the first day of class:

    • CPR Certification
      • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
    • Physical Exam
    • Health Insurance

    You will learn more about these requirements after you have successfully registered for the current semester and you have received your EMT packet.

Step 2: Watch the General Orientation Videos

Find the link to the General Orientation Videos in your online Canvas course: EMSP-1160 Clinical–Emergency Medical Technology, under Announcements.

You must watch these videos before you attend a Virtual Class Information Meeting.

This videos will cover procedures for completing the required drug screening and criminal background check. You will not be allowed to continue the EMT program without a completed, passed drug screen and criminal background check.

If you have any questions, the Virtual Class Information Meeting will offer live Q&A opportunities.

Step 3: Attend a Required Virtual Class Information Meeting

If you are registered in the EMT program, you must attend 1 of the following virtual EMT Class Information Meetings.

The virtual meeting includes live Q&A opportunities, so please come prepared with a pen and paper to take notes.

Step 4: Get Your Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening

After registering for the EMT program—but before classes begin—you must undergo and pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

These screenings will be administered through the College and will be at your expense.

There are no exceptions.

Step 5: Attend a Clinical Orientation Meeting

If you are enrolled in the EMT program, you must also attend 1 of the following EMT Clinical Orientation Meetings.

You are required to:

  • Arrive on time: No late arrivals will be permitted in the meeting.
  • Wear your clinical uniform: White shirt and blue pants.
  • Be prepared to take notes: Bring pen and paper.
