Selective Admission: Early Childhood Education and Teaching, BAS

Our Early Childhood Education and Teaching Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) is a selective admission program. Admission to TCC does not automatically guarantee admission to the upper-level BAS coursework. After being admitted to TCC, you must meet all selective admission requirements and submit a separate BAS program application.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

You must meet all selective admission requirements before you apply to the BAS program.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to apply for admission to upper-level BAS coursework.

TCC Student ID Number

If you are not currently a student, you must first apply to TCC and receive a TCC Student ID number. You will need this number for the BAS program application.

Core Curriculum and Lower-Level Coursework

You must complete the curriculum for the Associate of Arts in Teaching: Early Childhood through Grade 6. This includes:

  • The 42-semester-credit-hour Core Curriculum, and
  • All required lower-level education courses

If you have not completed the Associate of Arts in Teaching, you must complete all the following courses:

Official Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities.

Transcripts must show:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Completion of the following:
    • Core Curriculum and required lower-level coursework, or
    • Associate of Arts in Teaching: Early Childhood through Grade 6

How to Apply

After Admission

If you are admitted to the BAS program, you must complete all post-admission requirements before beginning coursework.

  • Accept the BAS admission offer, and complete enrollment actions stated in the admission notice
  • Complete program advising before registering for coursework
  • Complete any required background check, fingerprinting, or partner-school clearance for field-based and residency placements
  • Attend program-level orientation

How do I stay enrolled?

  • Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA in program coursework
  • Meet the academic and professional requirements for program completion

Licensing and Certification Notice

The Early Childhood Education and Teaching, BAS degree is not a Texas Education Agency-approved Educator Preparation Program. Program completion does not grant Texas teacher certification or eligibility to take teacher certification exams.

BAS graduates are eligible to apply to the separate TCC Educator Preparation Program. This alternative teacher certification program is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification and accredited by the Texas Education Agency.

Licensing Notice: Texas House Bill 1508

This program prepares you for an occupational license. However, you may not be eligible for licensing if you have a prior criminal history.
